Reflective gear: borrows light
Reflective stitching and piping bounce light back to its source. It's genuinely useful — when a light source exists. Car headlights, streetlamps, your flashlight: great. A pitch-dark park path with no traffic behind you: a reflective collar does almost nothing.
- Pros: no batteries, no charging, zero maintenance, works for years
- Cons: invisible without incoming light; dulls as it ages and gets dirty
LED gear: makes its own light
An LED collar emits a steady or flashing glow visible from up to 1,600 feet — from every direction, whether or not anything is shining at your dog. Drivers see your dog before their headlights reach the reflective strip.
- Pros: active visibility in total darkness; visible from any angle; rechargeable
- Cons: needs charging (ours run 12+ hours per charge)
So which one?
